Known
as Tsepagme, he is an aspect of Amitabha, and the embodiment of
infinite life and the focus of practices that ward off untimely or
premature death. Cradling vases of immortality in their left hands,
Amitayus and his wisdom consort embrace each other in yab-yum fashion,
waving long-life arrows with mirrors, and silk ribbons of the five
colors. Accomplishment in his practices ensures a healing of sicknesses
and imbalances in the five elements of the body and confers the
blessings of extended life. Along with Amitabha and Chenrezig, he is
also associated with the P'howa tradition of the Nyingma school.
